Best Android Apps to Help You With Your Taxes

Are you one of those brave souls who attempts to prepare your own taxes every year? If you don’t rely on the help of a tax professional to make things right with Uncle Sam, you still don’t have to go it alone. Your taxes are incredibly important, so you want to get them done fast and accurately. If you have an Android phone, there are a few apps available in the Android Market that might be able to help you out along the way. Here are some of the best Android apps to help you with your taxes.
IRS2Go
This handy little free app from the Internal Revenue Service will let you check the status of your refund while you’re on-the-go. You can instantly know whether it’s been approved, rejected, or if it’s still processing. You can also get tax tips and see the latest IRS tweets (yes, the IRS has Twitter, too).
BNA Quick Tax Reference
This free app from Bloomberg is a great way to look up information and make tax estimates, especially for tax professionals. It contains individual and corporate tax rate schedules, standard deductions, capital gains, estate taxes, tax code pension, and much more useful information. You can even change the tax year to estimate taxes and find information for years back to 2007.
TurboTax SnapTax
This app is the easiest way to complete your taxes if you have only one W-2, no dependents, no house, and earned less than $100,000 last year. You can take a photo of your W-2, answer a few simple questions, and instantly e-file your return. It takes just minutes and costs just $19.99. The app is free to download.
MyTaxRefund by TurboTax
After you e-file your return, download this free app to track it. It works for anyone who wants to track their e-filed Federal or State return, even if you didn’t use TurboTax to do it.
TaxCaster by TurboTax
With this free app, you can get a quick estimate of the amount you might expect for your refund this year. You’ll answer a few questions about things like your marital status, dependents, withholdings, income, and more, and it will calculate how much of a refund you might receive. It doesn’t do your taxes, but it’s a helpful tool to get an estimate on your return.
TacACT Central
Along with a free or deluxe TaxACT account, this free app will help you prepare your taxes. Even if you don’t end up using TaxACT to complete your taxes, there are lots of helpful tools available with this app. It includes a checklist of documents you’ll need to locate, gives you tax tips, notifies you of deadlines, and answers your questions with the Help Center. You can also track the status of your returns.
Tax Receipt
This free app will help you calculate how much taxes you have to pay based on your income, filing status, and dependents. It will also break down your taxes for you and show you just how much is going where, including Social Security and more.
